Camps cannot go ahead without staff.
The camp hires 2 camp cooks each season. We also hire a health care worker for the summer camping season. Federal funding for hiring students allows us to employ a number of university students each summer to supervise waterfront activities and to organize and implement other programs.
The camp board feels strongly that, in addition to those mentioned above, we need to have a number of teen and adult volunteers. Teen volunteers (must be at least 15 years of age by the end of the year) will be responsible for a small group of campers and making sure they know their whereabouts at all times.
We also are committed to having 4 – 6 mature (over the age of 21) adult leaders at each camp (more campers require more leaders). This means a minimum of 24 volunteers throughout the summer. We trust that we will have a positive response again this year. Remember, camps will be cancelled if we do not have adequate adult supervision. Do you want to see this happen?
If you are able to volunteer please visit the FORMS page to fill out the appropriate online volunteer application.
If you require further assistance contact Tonya Stuckless at firstname.lastname@example.org
Volunteers must have appropriate references, be interviewed by a member of our Program and Leadership Development Committee, and be willing to provide a Certificate of Conduct, if so requested. Training specific to being a camp leader will be provided.
West Haven is owned by the United Church of Canada and operated by a dedicated group of volunteers. It remains a challenge to find the money to keep the camp well maintained while keeping camp fees low enough so that camp is accessible to all youth who wish to come. All donations are very much appreciated. Your tax deductible donation may be sent to: West Haven Camp, Inc., P.O. Box 613, Corner Brook, A2H 6G1.
